Teen fatally shot in Atlanta

Glenda Carol Burk
Mrs. Glenda Carol Burk, age 75, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at a local hospital following an extended illness.
She was born in Cherokee County, Ala. on December 23, 1941, daughter of the late Opal Moon Ashley. She was graduate of Cherokee County High School and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Burk, by two sons, Jeffery Burk and Steve Ashley, and by a brother, Bud Moon.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Henderson, and her husband, David, Lindale; a son, Gary Burk, and his wife, Angie, Cave Spring; six grandchildren, 10 great-grand-children, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Robert Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until time for the service. At other hours, the family may be contacted at their respective residences.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and include: Eric O’Neal, Cole Burk, Zack Burk, Colton Burk, Kyle Ashley, Stoner Ashley, and Jimbo Burk.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
Katie Hayes Sloan
Mrs. Katie Hayes Sloan, age 90, of Rome, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, in a local health care facility.
Funeral services will be held today, March 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with her Pastor, Dr. Philip May, and her son-in-law, the Rev. Lamar Ashley officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, today from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective homes.

LOGANVILLE — Police say a teenager in suburban Atlanta was fatally shot during a fight in a subdivision.
Gwinnett County police spokesman Sgt. Jake Smith says the incident occurred Saturday evening when police found 19-year-old Jacquorrius Madison with a gunshot wound. Smith says a witness reported that a group of teenagers were fighting around 6 p.m. in a parking lot of the neighborhood’s swim and tennis area and heard gunshots.
Smith says Madison was taken to the hospital where was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made.
