County to hear task force needs
Commissioners also are expected to recognize employees Tuesday and approve several equipment purchases.
The Floyd County Commission is slated to hear from Sheriff Tim Burkhalter Tuesday about staffing needs for a drug task force.
Burkhalter and Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell are scheduled to appear before the board at its pre-meeting caucus, set for noon on the second floor of the County Administration Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave.
Commissioners also will finalize their agenda during the caucus. The board’s regular meeting follows at 2 p.m. and both sessions are open to the public.
The tentative agenda includes recognition of long-time county employees and appointments to several citizen boards.
County Manager Jamie McCord also is expected to make a number of spending recommendations, including a budget increase to $200,000 from $100,000 for playground improvements. The money — from 2013 special purpose, local option sales tax revenue — will fund new equipment and mulch at two Alto Park playgrounds and one at Etowah Park.
Earmarks in the SPLOST also will pay for some Public Works equipment: a $78,488 Kubota mini-excavator and a $96,658 roadside sprayer system, made up of a Northstar sprayer unit and a Ford F-450 truck. Both items are under budget.
The Water Department also wants to buy a 2017 Ford F-250 crew cab truck to be used by the Floyd County Prison for an inmate work crew. The $28,265 cost would come from water system revenue.
The county general fund would be tapped for the Parks & Recreation Department’s four-year lease of two John Deere 8800 Terrain Mowers. The $53,150 agreement with Greenville Turf and Tractor would be paid in annual installments of $12,968.
