The second annual “A Night to Remember” will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

For local adults who may have missed their prom or just enjoyed it so much that they want a repeat, Saturday’s “A Night to Remember” is the chance to do it all over again.

With a “Back to the ’80s” theme, the second annual “A Night to Remember” adult prom will have guests reliving the iconic decade with decor, music and clothes straight out of the ’80s.

The event benefits the Alzheimer’s Association which offers a 24/7 hotline as well as training programs and a variety of other resources for people in all stages of the disease as well as their caregivers.

Last year’s prom, the first of its kind locally, netted $13,000. Organizers Charisse Durham and Kyle Doegg expect even more success this year.

“Last year people had so much fun and we had such great feedback,” Durham said. “There was such a diverse crowd that I’m sure they’ll all be back and more people will have heard of it and want to join in on the fun.”

This year’s ’80s-themed event will take place at the Forrest Place Ballrooms on Broad Street on Saturday from 8-11 p.m.

There will be an open beer/wine bar with a DJ and lots of ’80s inspired fun.

New to this year’s event will be a prom court. Local celebs including Evie McNiece, John Burnett, Rhonda Wallace and Tonya Davis are vying to be crowned prom king and queen. Those titles will be decided by paid votes which can be done online at www.anighttorememberromega.com or by searching “A Night To Remember Adult Prom” on Facebook.

Tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased on the website.

“Of course since it’s prom a lot of people like to get dressed up,” said Doegg, who plans to wear a tuxedo. “But if people want to wear ’80s-inspired costumes that’s great too. You can wear whatever you want to have fun in. There will be dancing and chances to take your photo in front of our awkward prom photo backdrop.”

The DJ will be taking requests at $5 per song and there will also be a $50 play-it-next option, will all the money going to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“My favorite part about this event is that we have such a diverse group of people who attended last year and have already bought tickets for this year,” Durham said. “We’ve got a lot of little surprises and activities so that everyone will have a great time. Dress up in your best prom attire or throw on an ’80s-inspired costume. You’ll have a blast.”

Guests must present ID at the door.
