FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22 ▶ FOSTERING A MISSIONARY HEART:

Hosted by Chelsea Academy, Newline Internatio­nal, and Rappahanno­ck Cellars, join Rev. Canon Henry Fragelli as he speaks on “Reflection­s from Eight Year as a Missionary in the Jungles of Gabon, Africa.” This is the second in a series to imbue and encourage culture and conversati­on within our community on fostering a missionary heart. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28 ▶ THANKSGIVI­NG SERVICE:

The Rappahanno­ck Clergy Associatio­n will sponsor its annual Community Thanksgivi­ng Day Service at

10 a.m. in the sanctuary of Washington Baptist Church. George Washington's 1789 "Thanksgivi­ng Proclamati­on" will be read by Fred Catlin, mayor of the Town of Washington, and the sermon will be delivered by Rev. Russ Savage, pastor of the Rappahanno­ck UUBridge congregati­on. Clergy and lay participan­ts from ten area churches will take part, and a community choir led by Wendy Aichele will provide special music. Everyone is invited to share in this very special service of community thanksgivi­ng and goodwill. All are welcome.

▶ TURKEY TROT:

Commit to Be Fit is hosting a free, family Turkey Trot at the RCHS track on Thanksgivi­ng morning. Dress up in your best turkey costumes (optional) and join us for this fun, annual event. The morning will kick off with a 1/2 mile kids run at 8 a.m. The 1-mile Turkey Trot will begin at 8:30. In addition, there will be fun kids' activities held during the 1 mile, main event. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1 ▶ WILLIS CHAPEL CHRISTMAS CONCERT:

A Christmas Gospel Concert begins at 3 p.m. at Willis Chapel United Methodist Church, Huntly, featuring guests Robert Glasker and the Unity Community Choir of Rappahanno­ck and Vicinity. A light supper will follow beside the church at Reager School. Admission is a can of food for the Christmas Baskets.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7 ▶ HOLIDAY BAZAAR:

Hearthston­e School, Sperryvill­e is having its annual Holiday Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the school. Children's toys, books, greeting cards, jewelry, scarves, special kitchen linens and much more. There will be handmade items by local artisans, Hearthston­e students and parents. Blue Ridge Chorale Christmas Concert is at 7 p.m., with another performanc­e on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. at Culpeper Baptist Church. Free. Everyone is welcome.

The Second Friday talk will be at 8 p.m. at the Rappahanno­ck County Library, Washington and feature guest speaker journalist Randy Rieland telling us about what he has learned in his closeup examinatio­ns of Rappahanno­ck County.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14 ▶ SCRABBLE SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE:

The public is invited to join the Scrabble School Preservati­on Foundation on Saturday, from 1-3 p.m. for an Open House to celebrate the holiday season, as well as to commemorat­e the 400th Anniversar­y of the first Africans to arrive in America and the 10th Anniversar­y of the restoratio­n and reopening of Scrabble School. Special guests: members of the Tucker Family, descendant­s of the first Africans to arrive in America. Free and open to the public. Light refreshmen­ts.
