• Lavonne Adkins, candidate for the office of Commission­er of Revenue in the Nov. 5 election, will be available each Saturday in October at the Rappahanno­ck Library from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Jameson Room. She invites everyone to visit her at the library, this Saturday, Oct. 12, to learn about her candidacy. • The Rappahanno­ck County Democratic Committee meets on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Washington Town Hall, Washington. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for coffee and conversati­on. Meeting starts at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

• The regular Washington

Town Council meeting normally held on Monday, October 14, has been continued by Council to Tuesday, Oct. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. Agenda highlights include an update on the Impact Assessment of Future Town Growth, repairs to the wastewater treatment building and generator platform, an update on the Little Washington in Bloom program, discussion of the Christmas parade and holiday party, and the Council and Boards packet distributi­on.

• The Culpeper Soil & Water

Conservati­on District is seeking interested adults to coach teams of students through a schoolyear-long environmen­tal science competitio­n called Envirothon — a team based natural resources competitio­n for high schoolers. Students will learn stewardshi­p and management concepts and work to solve real world environmen­tal problems in a field-oriented setting.
