DeGrom exits following four no-hit innings

Jacob deGrom departed with a sore right wrist after pitching four spotless innings, and two Texas Rangers relievers completed a onehitter Monday night in a 4-0 victory over the host Kansas City Royals.

Josh Jung launched a three-run homer in the first inning and Marcus Semien added a solo shot in the third. Dane Dunning (1-0) struck out five and walked none in 4 1/3 innings of relief. José Leclerc got two outs to end it.

Matt Duffy's one-out single in the fifth off Dunning was the Royals' only hit.

The Rangers said deGrom was removed as a precaution. He struck out five and walked one, throwing 39 of his 58 pitches for strikes.

BRAVES 2, PADRES 0 » Max Fried held sputtering San Diego in check for five innings in his return from the injured list, and Austin Riley hit a two-run homer as visiting Atlanta beat the Padres for its seventh straight win.

The Padres were shut out for the second consecutiv­e day and the third time in eight games. They've lost six of eight since taking three of four in Atlanta from April 6-9.

Fried (1-0), the former Harvard-Westlake standout, limited the Padres to four singles while striking out four and walking none.

He was placed on the IL after leaving his opening-day start against Washington with a strained left hamstring.

CUBS 10, ATHLETICS 1 » Patrick Wisdom hit two more homers and drove in four runs, leading Hayden Wesneski and Chicago to a road victory over Oakland.

Wisdom connected for a solo drive in the second inning and a three-run shot in the eighth. He has five homers during a four-game streak and eight homers on the season, tied for the big league lead.

Ian Happ added three RBIs and Cody Bellinger had a career-high five hits for the Cubs, who had 20 hits. Wesneski (1-0) pitched seven innings of one-run ball.

MARLINS 4, GIANTS 3 » Jorge Soler hit a pinch-hit two-run home run in the seventh inning off Logan Webb and host Miami rallied to beat San Francisco for its fifth win in six games.

Webb's outing ended after Soler's blast. He fell to 0-4 after giving up four runs and eight hits with six strikeouts.

David Villar's two-run double in the third inning made it 3-0 Giants.

REDS 8, RAYS 1 » TJ Friedl had four RBIs and Cincinnati beat visiting Tampa Bay after Reds righthande­r Hunter Greene left with a leg injury.

The Rays lost for the third time in four games since their 13-0 start.

Greene was struck by Yandy Díaz's comebacker in the third and stayed in the game.

But Greene, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft out of Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) High, exited after the inning. He was diagnosed with a right tibia contusion. X-rays were negative.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 6, CARDINALS 3 » Pavin Smith hit his first career grand slam, leading Arizona to a victory at St. Louis.

Merrill Kelly (1-2) pitched six innings, allowing a run, five hits and no walks.

Jack Flaherty (1-2) was lifted in the seventh after facing three batters, including etel Marte who hit a go-ahead homer.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. doubled and Christian Walker drew a walk to chase Flaherty. Andre Pallante entered and promptly walked Corbin Carroll to load the bases. Smith ripped a 2-2 curveball 414 feet into the right field bleachers.

ASTROS 9, BLUE JAYS 2 » Jake Meyers hit a threerun homer to cap a seven-run first inning, and Houston routed Kevin Gausman and visiting Toronto.

Gausman (1-2) was charged with eight runs, seven earned, and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
