Beattie lifts Burrell to big victory

Burrell’s Devin Beattie had one of the top rushing performanc­es of the WPIAL football season last night, gaining 302 yards on 31 carries to help the Bucs (5-1, 2-1) outlast Imani Christian, 41-30, in an Allegheny Conference game played at Graham Field in Wilkinsbur­g.

Beattie scored six touchdowns on runs of 65, 52, 35, 4, 1 and 4 yards. Imani Christian (2-4, 0-3) was paced by David Davis, who had touchdown runs of 30, 1 and 10 yards. Burrell held a 34-24 advantage heading into the final quarter.

More Class 2A

KeystoneOa­ks 42, Charleroi 0: Shawn Reick rushed 8 times for 130 yards, including a 75-yard first-quarter touchdown run to pace the host Golden Eagles (42, 2-1) to a Century Conference win. Charleroi (1-4, 0-2) managed just 126 yards of offense. Keystone Oaks scored on two blocked punt returns and on an 80-yard punt return from Clinton Robinson. The Golden Eagles led at halftime, 27-0.

Washington 59, Waynesburg 14: Eddie Lewis rushed for 125 yards on just 5 carries, scoring touchdowns on runs of 29, 53 and 29 yards, leading the host Little Prexies (5-1, 2-0) to a Century Conference win over the Raiders (0-6, 0-3).

Serra Catholic 49, Derry 7: Serra (5-1, 3-0), ranked No. 3 in WPIAL Class 2A, used a 296-yard passing performanc­e by Quadir Stribling to roll past the visiting Trojans (0-6, 0-3) in the Allegheny Conference game. Stribling threw touchdown passes of 43, 80, 60 and 80 yards.

SteelValle­y 42, Apollo Ridge 7: The host Ironmen (6-0, 3-0), ranked No. 1 in 2A, led the Allegheny Conference game by 42-0 entering the fourth quarter. Steel Valley’s JeSean Wright had a 55yard intercepti­on return for a touchdown and also scored on a 39-yard run. Apollo Ridge (3-3, 12) was outgained, 336-131.

Sto-Rox 6, McGuffey 0: The narrow win moved the visiting Vikings (3-2, 3-0) into sole possession of first place in the Century Conference. Diego Ellis scored the only touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Josh Jenkins in the third quarter.

Beaver Falls 44, Riverside 14: The win gives the Tigers (5-1, 30) sole possession of first place in the Midwestern Conference.

Class 1A

Our Lady Sacred Heart 45, Chartiers-Houston 0: Nehemiah Azeem threw first-half touchdown passes of 60 and 69 yards and also ran 11 yards for a score to lift the visiting Chargers (6-0, 3-0) to a Black Hills Conference win over the Bucs (3-3, 0-3).

Burgettsto­wn 26, Cornell 6: Brodie Kuzior rushed for 137 yards on 18 carries, including and 11-yard touchdown run to pace the host Blue Devils (3-2, 21) to a Black Hills Conference win over the Raiders (3-2, 2-1).

Avella 22, Carlynton 14: Cole Jaworski completed 10 of 14 passes for 112 yards and scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run to help the host Eagles (1-5, 1-2) gain a Black Hills Conference win. Winless Carlynton (0-6, 0-3) led at halftime, 14-13.

Bishop Canevin 60, Fort Cherry 7: The Crusaders (5-1, 30), ranked No. 1 in WPIAL Class 1A by the Post-Gazette, scored at least 13 points in every quarter to dominate the Black Hills Conference game. Xavier Nelson caught 5 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Canevin offense. Fort Cherry falls to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference.

Mapletown 52, California 20:: Landan Stevenson, the leading scorer in the WPIAL, had four touchdown runs, giving him 23 for the season, helping the visiting Maples (6-0, 3-0) to a TriCounty South win over the Trojans (4-2, 1-2). Stevenson rushed for 251 yards on 30 carries.

Leechburg 56, Frazier 0: Braylon Lovelace rushed for 192 yards on 17 carries and scored six touchdowns, leading the host Blue Devils ( 4- 2, 2- 1) to an Eastern Conference victory over winless Frazier (0-6, 0-3).
