Johnson, who left NASCAR for IndyCar, retires

-

Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, who ran IndyCar with Chip Ganassi’s team last season, is retiring from full-time racing and will turn his focus toward spending time with family.

He figures his future schedule will include no more than 10 bucket-list events, but the 47-year-old had no idea Monday what that schedule will look like.

Johnson told The Associated Press he was excited to announce “I’ve got a blank sheet of paper, and we can now see what opportunities exist and start making a calendar.” Carvana has told Johnson, who retired from NASCAR in 2020, it will back whatever racing he pursues.

He for sure won’t return for a second full IndyCar season with Chip Ganassi Racing. He raced only the street and road courses in 2021, added the ovals to run the full 2022 season and now isn’t even sure if he’ll run IndyCar at all.

Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla said he will give people time to “feel and heal” as the team prepares to open training camp Tuesday. “You can’t rush trust. You can’t rush healing. You can’t rush any of that,” he said to a packed room at Celtics media day. “Regardless of what has happened, we have a great roster and we have a great opportunity. That’s what I have to focus on.” Mazzulla, 34, was an assistant under Ime Udoka, who is serving a year-long suspension for multiple violations of team policies, including an inappropriate relationship with a woman in the organization.
