Ewing to lead intermediate high school
Appointment takes effect on April 2
Caitlin Ewing is the new principal of North Allegheny Intermediate High School.
The school board on March 21 unanimously appointed Mrs. Ewing, currently an assistant principal at the school, to the position. She replaces Brendan Hyland, who became superintendent of the Plum School District.
“She has been a welcome addition to North Allegheny. She has done a wonderful, wonderful job and I know she is going to do great things,” said board member Libby Blackburn.
Mrs. Ewing’s appointment is effective April 2, and she will be paid $120,000 a year.
“I am so thankful to call this home,” she said. “I just thank you so much for this opportunity. And ‘Go Tigers.’ “
Mrs. Ewing began her teaching career as a middle school math teacher in the Pine-Richland School District. She later served as assistant principal of the middle school.
She joined North Allegheny on Nov. 16, 2015. She has been the lead administrator for many initiatives at NAI, including Focus 2020, the diversity committee and the development and implementation of autistic support, life skills and emotional support programs.
She also is the safety coordinator and student activities coordinator.
Mrs. Ewing earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in leadership and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh. She currently is pursuing a doctorate in leadership and administration at Point Park University.
Board president Kevin Mahler said he remembers talking with Mrs. Ewing last year and telling her to “keep doing what you are doing.
“I’m glad you did and I am glad you are here.”
