The superintendent who oversaw the Plum Borough School District during a 2015 sex abuse scandal that resulted in two federal lawsuits and the criminal convictions of three former teachers will be paid $184,063 as part of a separation agreement with the district.
Timothy Glasspool retired from the district, effective Oct. 1, and will receive one year’s salary of $157,600, as well as $12,375 for unused sick days and $14,088 for unused vacation days. The school district also will cover the cost of medical benefits for his family through June 30, 2018, according to the agreement.
The school board approved the separation agreement last week in a 7-1 vote, but details of the agreement were not released at the time. The Post-Gazette obtained a copy of the agreement Thursday under a formal Right to Know request.
Mr. Glasspool’s attorney, Colleen Ramage Johnston, wrote in a letter to district solicitor Lee Price on Sept. 14 that Mr. Glasspool intended to leave the district, due to the continuing “antagonistic and hostile behavior” of some board members.
She said Mr. Glasspool’s preference was to resign effective Oct. 1 with a year’s salary of $157,600 plus health, vision and dental benefits through June 2018 and the payments for unused sick and vacation days. If the board would not accept that arrangement, she wrote, Mr. Glasspool intended to submit a letter of retirement Oct. 1 that would leave the district responsible for paying him a package worth more than $430,000,
