Trinity shakes off poor start in win

-

Whether it was due to their excitement of making the PIAA quarterfinals for the first time or the rust from the long charter bus ride Saturday to Chambersburg, Trinity found themselves in trouble early against District 12’s Archbishop Carroll.

Fortunately that rust wore off quickly as the Hillers (253) rallied for a 44-39 victory against the Patriots (20-6).

“Our charter plane had some turbulence,” Trinity coach Bob Miles jokingly said. “We maybe had an emotional hangover plus the long bus ride.”

In the win, Sierra Kotchman became the all-time leading scorer at Trinity, including the boys and girls programs. She finished with 13 points and now has 1,669.

“She has been a dynamic player,” Miles said. “She doesn’t show that emotion that she is the all-time leading scorer. It speaks volumes to what she has done for this girls program the past four years.”

The best news of the day came after the game when the Hillers found out they would be playing South Fayette and not have to travel. time in school history. By outscoring the Eagles (245), 20-4, in the first quarter at North Allegheny, they did just that. Junior Maddie Gutierrez was the spark for the Lions, scoring 12 of her game-high 16 points in the first quarter. The Eagles had a hard time finding a rhythm, turning the ball over 26 times.

West Shamokin 38, Neshannock 35: Olivia Fusaro scored her 1,000th point to lead the Wolves (27-2) past the Lancers (25-3) at North Allegheny. Fusaro now has 1,006 points after her 18-point effort. Bella Burrelli led Neshannock with 14.
