University Prep routs Perry to reach final

Tawan Wesley threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, as University Prep dominated Perry in a City League semifinal game Friday night at Cupples Stadium.

University Prep jumped out to a 33-0 lead en route to a 40-6 victory. The win earned the Wildcats (5-4) a berth in the City League championsh­ip game.

The Wildcats will face twotime defending champ Brashear (4-5) in the title game at 1 p.m. Nov. 5.

The Bulls earned their berth with a 23-20 overtime win Thursday against Westinghou­se.

University Prep scored twice in the first quarter.

Dorian Johnson opened the scoring with an 8-yard run. Malik Fields followed with a special teams score as he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.

Wesley connected with Raujee Clerfe and Nasir Tatum on a pair of 22-yard touchdown passes in the second quarter. Wesley completed 8 of 22 passes.

The Wildcats also scored on a 30-yard fumble return by Clerfe in the second quarter and on a 1-yard run by Darius Langston in the fourth quarter.

Perry (3-6) scored its only points on a 70-yard touchdown pass from David Freeman to Randy Williams.
