Mt. Lebanon tops Penn Hills with late surge

A close game between Mt. Lebanon and Penn Hills through the first three quarters turned into a blowout by the time it ended.

No. 4 Mt. Lebanon (6-4) used a 21-point fourth quarter to pull away from visiting Penn Hills (4-5) and seize a 56-26 non-conference victory.

Mt. Lebanon held a 3526 lead after three quarters, but in the fourth quarter, David Harvey scored on runs of 3 and 70 yards, and Garrett Wimer recovered a fumble in the end zone to help the Blue Devils break open the game.

Harvey was a workhorse, carrying 31 times for 199 yards and four touchdowns.

For Penn Hills, Cam Tarrant, the WPIAL’s leading passer, threw for 132 yards and a touchdown, but he was picked off four times and lost the fumble that Wimer recovered. 69 and 67 yards and finished with 206 yards on 19 carries. Bethel Park (5-3, 5-0) scored all of its points in the second and third quarters, including a 21-point burst before halftime. Altoona has lost five games in a row and the past three by a combined score of 125-0.

Pine-Richland 28, Butler 13: The wet weather didn’t stop No. 3 Pine-Richland (63, 4-1) from airing it out. Max DeVinney completed 20 of 37 attempts for 364 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rams in the Northern Seven Conference. DeVinney found Jordan Crawford for 79 yards in the first quarter, then hooked up with Raymond Falcone for a 46-yard third-quarter touchdown. Butler (2-6, 1-5) has lost five of its past six games.
