Dudek nears WPIAL rushing record

Armstrong tailback Zane Dudek moved up to No. 3 on the WPIAL’s all-time rushing list and moved within 68 yards of breaking the WPIAL full-season record with an impressive performanc­e Friday night at Connellsvi­lle.

Dudek rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries as the No. 3-ranked River Hawks (8-1, 6-1) dominated the Falcons (1-8, 0-7), 60-7, in the Big East Conference.

Dudek has 2,698 yards on 253 carries this season, which increased his career total to 6,730 yards on 675 carries.

He needs 68 yards to pass Clairton’s Lamont Wade, who rushed for 2,765 yards in 2014. He needs 917 yards to pass Fort Cherry’s Mike Vernillo, who rushed for 7,646, on the career list. runs of 1 and 3 yards; and Vissman on runs of 2 and 54 yards.

Fox Chapel 51, Chartiers Valley 12: five touchdowns to lead the Mustangs (2-6, 2-6) to a Big East Conference win over the winless Wildcats (0-9, 0-7). Brown scored on runs of 8, 18, 14, 55, and 53 yards.

Latrobe was led by Austin Butler, who rushed for 142 yards on 12 carries. Butler scored on touchdown runs of 83 and 4 yards. 35, Johns scored on runs of 3 and 7 yards.

North Hills scored on a 94-yard kickoff return by Tyler Brennan, a 24-yard run by Ben Walter, and a 2-yard run by Melvin Blanks.

Penn-Trafford 27, Kiski Area 3: Cam Laffoon threw for one touchdown and ran for two more as the visiting Warriors (6-3, 4-3) beat the Cavaliers (4-5, 4-3) in the Big East Conference.

Lafoon completed 3 of 3 passes for 125 yards and connected with Cam Suman on a 72-yard touchdown pass.

Kiski’s only points came on a 31-yard field goal by Nick Bisceglia.
