#SEENHotSpot Tender Bar + Kitchen
The place: Tender Bar + Kitchen, Lawrenceville. Why it’s hot: The prominent building at 4300 Butler St. was originally Arsenal Bank, dating back to the 1880s. “We wanted to pay homage to the history here. We repurposed the original marble as the bar top and kept interesting details like the safe and the vault,” said general manager Jason Carr. The result? A sophisticated yet welcoming environment perfect for a romantic afterdinner drink or dinner with friends. Celebs such as Chloe Sevigny have popped in when filming in the city (TV’s “Those Who Kill”). Visit on Tuesdays and Thursdays for live music performed by Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra musicians and local jazz and singer-songwriter acts. What to try: The craft cocktail menu focuses on local and seasonal ingredients, and patrons are impressed with the results. “My husband and I love Tender Bar + Kitchen — I always get the same drink: the Last Word, which is an incredibly unique gin concoction that incorporates tangy hints of lime,” said Bonnie Mangold, 26, a lawyer who lives and works Downtown. Other favorites include The Forty-Third Street, a bourb onbased drink with hints of cinnamon and ginger. Staying for dinner? Execut ive chef Brian Little whips up popular dishes like duck confit with baby bok choy or sweet potato gnocchi with chestnuts. Veggie lovers have options, too. Be sure to stop in for brunch and try a Bloody Mary and reuben with housemade kimchi. “We just want people to feel at home here and to have a great experience every single time,” said Mr. Carr.
