Abby Gonzales scored the tying basket with 1.7 seconds left in regulation, and Class AAAA No. 2 North Allegheny (10-1, 4-1) won on the road, 66-57 in overtime, against previously unbeaten Shaler (9-1, 3-1) in Section 2. Meg Morningsta­r led North Allegheny with 24 points.

Sarah Mattes scored Bethel Park’s last seven points as the Class AAAA No. 3 Black Hawks (9-0, 4-0) rallied from an eightpoint fourth-quarter deficit to beat visiting Chartiers Valley (38, 1-4), 57-53.

Central Valley has two of the top scorers in the WPIAL, and that was enough Thursday night to help the Warriors knock off Class AAA’s topranked team.

Kiana Law and Seairra Barrett combined for 56 points in a 71-61 home win for No. 5 Central Valley (8-3, 4-0) against Blackhawk (11-1, 4-1) in Section 2.

Law had 26 of her game-high 31 points in the first three quarters, while Barrett scored 23 of her 25 points after the first quarter.

Class AAAA No. 1 Mt. Lebanon (8-2, 4-0) got 15 points apiece from Margie McCaffrey and Christine Ehland in a 67-54 victory against visiting Baldwin (6-5, 2-4) in Section 4.

Olivia Barkley had 12 points, including the go-ahead basket with 10 seconds remaining to lift Class AAA No. 2 Elizabeth Forward (9-1, 4-0) to a 41-39 victory against Ringgold (6-6, 1-4) in Section 4.

Allison McGrath, Halie Torris and Amanda Quinn combined for 12 3-pointers as visiting South Park (8-4, 5-1) blew out Class AAA No. 4 Trinity (8-2, 3-1), 7435. McGrath had a game-high 25 points.

Class A No. 4 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (8-3, 4-0) rallied from 10 points down in the final four minutes to notch a road win against No. 3 St. Joseph (7-3, 2-2), 52-50. Freshman Sam Breen led the Trojans with 27 points, 13 rebounds.

Stars of the night

Amirah Moore scored 24 of her game-high 30 points in the second half to propel Moon (83, 3-1) to a 53-50 victory against visiting Keystone Oaks (4-8, 0-4) in Class AAA Section 5.

Sammie Weiss scored 26 points and added 10 steals as host McGuffey (8-3, 3-0) grabbed a lopsided win against Washington (7-3, 4-1), 71-37, in Class AA Section 5.

Sweeney takes over at Derry

Dereck Riggleman set a school-record with 51 points to lead host Mapletown (4-5, 1-1) to a 66-60 win against Geibel Catholic (1-8, 0-2) in Class A Section 2. With those points, his career total surpassed the 1,000-point mark to 1,018.

Boys hot shots

Derry High School named Tim Sweeney as its head football coach. Sweeney played at Derry and also at Penn State. He recently served as the president of Penn State’s Letterman’s Club.
