AX THROWING COUPLES DON'T MIND ANTI-VALENTINE THEME
Hatchet House owner Arianna Mathiopoulos threw an anti-Valentine's Day “Axe Your Ex” event Wednesday, but a lot of people who were ax throwing were there on dates at the beginning of the evening.
Mathiopoulos had 22 reservations for ax throwing exes, but couples came out to celebrate Valentine's Day with a fun and unique date. The room was filled with noise and laughter and the sound of metal hitting a target.
“I'm excited about this event!” Mathiopoulos said.
The Hatchet House was decorated with black balloons and signs and a banner that read “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, My life is so much better since I broke up with you.” Radio station Thunder 100.7 was there to promote the event and do a live broadcast. The marketing team brought in gift baskets for a raffle. The prizes came from Chico's “Get It in Chico!” campaign.
But some couples were deep into the day of love. Blake Trambley was on a date with his girlfriend. He watched with a broad smile as she pelted the bullseye with her ax.
“We're a couple, and we're enjoying this!” Trambley said.
The venue had pool and cornhole as activities as well as the ax throwing.
Justin Barnes and Taylor White decided to visit the Hatchet House on their date. Barnes had looked up ax throwing and found the Hatchet House on Google Maps.
The two had had lunch at Woodstock's Pizza in Chico and decided to hit the Hatchet House for the evening part of their date.
“We're having a fun night,” Barnes said.
The two lined up to reserve a lane.
“We're hoping we get in!” Barnes said.
The Hatchet House is located at 824 Cherry St.
