Florida State receiver Johnny Wilson is returning to the football program in 2023, giving the Seminoles another crucial piece from their 10-win season.

The Battle’s End Collective welcomed Wilson to its team of FSU athletes Friday afternoon, signifying the 6-foot-7, 235-pound receiver would be back for his second season in Tallahassee.

Wilson joined the Seminoles as a transfer after two seasons at Arizona State, making an immediate impact with his new team. The redshirt sophomore became one of the favorite targets of quarterback Jordan Travis, who targeted him a team-high 76 times, per Pro Football Focus.

He appeared in all 13 games, leading the team in receptions (43), receiving yards (897) and receiving touchdowns (5). His performance earned him secondteam All-ACC.

Wilson set an FSU bowl record and a Cheez-It Bowl record with a career-high 202 receiving yards against Oklahoma, highlighted by a 58-yard catch that set up the winning field goal in the closing minutes. Afterward, he was asked about the performance.

“I want to do my job. It’s never like I’m fishing for stats. I wanted to win. That was it,” said Wilson. “I just wanted to get that 10th win with these boys. I’m just so happy that we finally accomplished that. It was a long, tough season.”

He is the latest FSU player to decide to return, joining Travis, running back Trey Benson, receiver Mycah Pittman, offensive linemen Maurice Smith and Robert Scott Jr., defensive lineman Fabien Lovett Jr., linebackers Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune and defensive back Akeem Dent.
