Man gets 20 years for supplying fentanyl in woman’s 2020 death

- By Frank Fernandez

A Palm Coast man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for supplying fentanyl to a woman whose body contained 10 times the amount needed to kill an adult.

Michael McIntyre, 35, supplied the fentanyl to 33-year-old Chelsea Price, which caused her death, according to investigators.

Price was found dead on Aug. 11, 2020, at a home on Edmond Place in Palm Coast, the release stated.

McIntyre was initially charged with firstdegree murder by unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, according to court records. He pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of manslaughter as part of a plea agreement.

McIntyre was adjudicated guilty and sentenced last week to 20 years in state prison. He received 15 years on the manslaughter charge to be followed by five years on another drug charge for a total of 20 years.

McIntyre had been in the Flagler County jail since February when he was arrested during an undercover operation in Bunnell on a charge of trafficking methamphetamine — 14 grams up to less than 28 grams.

McIntyre’s criminal record goes back to 2009 in Flagler County on charges of possession of marijuana under 20 grams, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, and possession of heroin with intent to sale, the release stated.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly issued a statement in a press release following the sentencing.

“Our detectives did a great job and worked with the State Attorney’s Office to take this poison peddler off the streets and put him behind bars before he could cause another death,” according to Staly’s statement. “I hope this helps bring healing to the family of Chelsea Price and a warning to other poison peddlers — we investigate every overdose death as a murder and you will be next to go to state prison.”
