FIGURE SKATING: A coach who once trained Olympic champion Tara Lipinski was suspended pending an investigat­ion into allegation­s of sexual misconduct first made against him nearly 20 years ago.

Richard Callaghan was accused of sexual misconduct in April 1999 by one of his former students. The student told the New York Times that Callaghan had engaged in inappropri­ate sexual contact with him beginning when he was 15. Callaghan, 72, denied the allegation­s.

GOLF: Tiger Woods put on a show before thousands of fans at the Valspar Championsh­ip in Palm Harbor, Fla. Corey Conners settled for a quiet afternoon and the lead. Woods had four birdies and kept a clean card at Innisbrook until his last hole. He still shot a 3-under 68 and was two shots out of the lead going into the weekend. Conners made three quick birdies but had a double bogey on No. 4, his 13th hole of the round. He still shot a 69 for his first 36-hole lead. SKIING: Mikaela Shiffrin all but secured her second straight overall World Cup title in the opening run of a giant slalom in Ofterschwa­ng, Germany. The Olympic champion from the United States posted the fourth-fastest time, trailing first-run leader Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway by 0.60 seconds. Shiffrin will lock up the title if she finishes sixth or better.
