AROUND THE HORN

-

Nationals: Stephen Strasburg won his 12th consecutive decision and Jayson Werth hit a pinch grand slam in a 10-2 victory over the Cardinals. Strasburg (9-0) allowed one run on six hits in six innings. He is 12-0 in 15 starts since losing to the Mets on Sept. 9, and the Nationals have won all 15 of those games.

Marlins: Derek Dietrich hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs before getting hurt on a foul ball hit into his dugout during a 7-3 win over the Braves. Dietrich was struck by a ball off the bat of teammate Christian Yelich in the ninth. Dietrich was knocked to the ground, where he remained face down for several minutes before rising to his feet. Giants: Hunter Pence had three doubles and the Giants tied a franchise record with eight two-baggers, beating the Rockies 8-3. Johnny Cueto (8-1) became the first Giant to win at least eight of his first 11 starts since Shawn Estes in 1997. The usually mildmannered and fast-working Cueto became a little agitated in the third after Gerardo Parra called a last-second timeout at bat. When Parra lined into a double play, Cueto appeared to say something to Parra, with Parra glaring back.

Red Sox: Dustin Pedroia’s RBI double in the 11th keyed a 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. Clay Buchholz, banished to the bullpen, worked one inning for the win in his first relief appearance since 2008. Xander Bogaerts went 1for-6, extending his hitting streak to 22 games . ... David Ortiz is day-to-day with a sore left foot.

Rangers: Struggling sluggers Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland homered in a 6-2 win over the Pirates that gave the Rangers their eighth straight series victory at home. The home runs were the first two by left-handed hitters this season against Francisco Liriano. Fielder’s blast ended a 34-game homer drought.

A’s: Billy Butler delivered a go-ahead two-run pinch single in a 4-2 win over the Tigers. LHP Rich Hill (8-3) gave up two runs on five hits in 61⁄3 innings to win his fifth straight start but left the game with a left shoulder injury.
