FAYETTEVIL­LE — Loy Edwin Caughman,

94, of Fayettevil­le, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, in Fayettevil­le. He was born Aug. 24, 1926, in Fayettevil­le, Ark., to Sherman and Muriel Lyons Caughman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Edith Plant and Peggy Carrick; and his grandson, Wade Caughman.

He will be missed by his wife of almost 75 years, Wilma, or as he called her “Sweet Thing,” and his family including children Linda Parnell (Larry) of Fayettevil­le, Sandy Bailey (Kenneth) of Kingston, David Caughman (Mabelee) of West Fork, Kathy Cox (Steve) of Dumas, Texas, and Doug Caughman (Carrie) of Farmington; 12 grandchild­ren: Clay Bailey (Sara), Lance Parnell (Suzy), Sara Beth Bailey, Malisa Howerton (TJ), Nathan Caughman (Amanda), Lindsay Ramsey (Hal), Will Bailey, Dessa Caughman, Kyle Cox (Kimberlea), Dallas Cox, Ti Caughman (Kourtney) and Tate Caughman; 18 great-grandchild­ren: Courtney, Kennedy, Landry, Drew, Brooks, Barrett, Ethan, Eli, Easton, Savannah, Natalie, Cade, Jacob, Milani, Bella, Jasmine, Sophia and Joe.

Over his 94 years, Loy invested his time in his family, working with his hands, his church, the outdoors and youth sports. He was proud of his large family and all their accomplish­ments, always telling them he was praying for them and letting them know how the weather might affect them wherever they were. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a carpenter and worked for over 20 years at the University of Arkansas Physical Plant and on various projects around Fayettevil­le. He coached youth baseball for many years including teams with his sons and their many friends. He served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing, and passed that love on to his family.

The Caughman family would like to thank Sarah Longstreth and the staff at Katherine’s Place for their love and care for Loy and Wilma during the last five years and especially over the last year.

There will be a private family service on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Beard’s Funeral Chapel followed by a burial at 11:15 at Baptist Ford Cemetery for those who wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been set up to benefit the staff at Katherine’s Place. The fund is titled: Caughman Katherine’s Place Staff Fund.
