PREP CROSS COUNTRY Bentonvill­e sweeps at Oaklawn

Bentonvill­e High claimed both team titles Saturday during the Lake Hamilton Invitation­al at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.

Bentonvill­e had all five girls finish in the top eight to earn an easy victory. The Lady Tigers finished with the meet with 22 points, while Springdale Har-Ber was a distant second with 70 and Vilonia was third at 111.

Lainey Quandt claimed the individual title as she covered the 5,000 meters in 18 minutes, 44.99 seconds, while teammate Tori Willis was second at 19:19.34 and Emily Robinson was fourth at 19:47.11. Abigail Livingston led Har-Ber with her sixth-place finish.

In the boys division, Bentonvill­e totaled 20 points as the Tigers had the top three runners and placed all five in the top eight, while Har-Ber was second with 42 points. Lake Hamilton was third with 90 points.

Lukas Pabst earned the individual honor with his time of 16:03.41, just ahead of runnerup Daniel Graham (16:07.75) and Coleman Wilson (16:08.91). Har-Ber’s Jack Kees (16:24.58) and Reuben Reina (16:31.46) rounded out the top five.

West Fork performs well at Van Buren Classic

West Fork won both Class 1A-4A team titles Saturday at the Van Buren Classic

The Lady Tigers used a 1-2-3 finish led by senior Kendall Hays, followed by sophomores Joyce Ferguson and Nealie Den Herder. Wyatt Kutz finished second to help the Tigers to the team title as West Fork placed four in the top 10.

Jacob Tyburski, a sophomore from Haas Hall-Bentonvill­e won the 1A-4A boys race in a time of 17 minutes, 9.96 seconds.

PREP VOLLEYBALL Greenwood ties for third in Missouri

Greenwood lost in the semifinals of the Ozark (Mo.) Grand Slam on Saturday to finish tied for third in the event, which included four of the top 10 teans in Missouri.

The Lady Bulldogs (25-5-1) swept Calvary Lutheran and Republic, Mo. before splitting two sets with host Ozark to advance to gold bracket play. Greenwood defeating Living Word in three sets but fell in the semifinals to Lafayette.

Zoie Benton led the offense with 36 kills on the day, while Abby Cagle added 31. Izzy Davis finished with 39 digs, while Benton added 29.

Bentonvill­e goes 1-3 in Kansas

Bentonvill­e won its first match Saturday, then suffered a trio of losses in the Blue Valley (Kan.) Invitation­al.

The Lady Tigers defeated Shawnee Mission (Kan.) East (25-22, 2523), then lost to Liberty (Mo.) North (25-19, 25-19), Blue Valley North (25-17, 25-14) and Blue Springs, Mo. (25-21, 25-18).

Savannah Riney had 29 kills and 25 digs during the four matches, while Trinity Hamilton had 11 kills and 39 digs and Maddie Breed had 10 kills. Cait Hudgens contribute­d 31 digs and Kloey Eakin added 23 while Taylor Shapley had 52 assists.

Bentonvill­e (16-15) closes out its regular season Tuesday with a 6A-West Conference match at Bentonvill­e West. The Lady Tigers will have the league’s No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the 6A state tournament, which will be held in Tiger Arena.
