Booneville 42, Ozark 20

OZARK — The Hillbillies were able to cut the lead to just a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, but Booneville was able to take over after that Friday night.

Booneville scored three touchdown in 38 seconds after that to put the game away to make it a three-game winning streak against its rival in Ozark.

“I was watching the clock and didn’t notice we scored that quick,” Booneville coach Scott Hyatt said. “That was pretty awesome. With the way our season has started, we’ll take this win.”

Booneville junior quarterback Evan Schlinker got his first start of the season filling in for senior quarterback Brandon Ulmer, who had an ACL injury last week and will miss the rest of the season.

Schlinker made the most of his passing opportunities, finishing 4-of-4 in the air for 82 yards including three touchdowns.

“He filled in for a little bit for us last year,” Hyatt said. “He threw the ball pretty well last year. He is green and has a long way to go. But he stepped up. He didn’t throw it well in practice, but he did tonight. He is going to be a good one.”

Booneville (2-0) was able to take a 21-7 advantage into halftime with the help of Schlinker’s throwing ability.

Schlinker through the air did all the scoring in the second quarter of the game. He dropped the snap but was able to recover to find Ethan Dobbs for a 25-yard touchdown on third down to take a 14-7 lead.

After forcing a punt, Booneville was able to extend its lead to 21-7 with a fourth-and-4 conversion. Schlinker connected with Anthony McKesson on a play-action pass for a 14-yard touchdown with 37 seconds left in the half.
