Hopper seeks Ward 1 seat on Rogers council

-

ROGERS — Clint Hopper has filed as a candidate for the Position 1, Ward 1 open seat on the City Council.

Three other people — Rick Stocker, Mandy McDonald Brashear and Shawn Wright — have filed to run for the seat as of Wednesday.

Hopper said he decided to run after Buddy Wright announced he won’t seek re-election, Hopper said. He wants to become more involved with the city again. Ward 1 represents the northeast area of Rogers.

“I haven’t been as involved with the city as I would’ve liked to be these last four years because I wanted to be able to spend that time with my kids,” he said. “But now, they’re getting older, and I want to give back to the community, and I see the City Council as something that could do that.”

Hopper is a lifelong Rogers resident and has seen both the city and Northwest Arkansas grow. If elected, his focus would be on city planning and development.

“This town has taken a huge leap forward with infrastructure and facilities that we have for things like civil services and parks. I want to continue this movement forward,” he said.

Input from residents is vital for the city’s success, he said.

“I’m a really strong believer that the voters need to elect who they feel is going to allow the city to grow, prosper and allow the city to continue to increase the quality of life. I want to keep this city a place where people want to move to and stay in,” Hopper said.

“Managing and planning, while also having our citizens share their input will really help us with the continuing growth here in Rogers.”

In 2008, Hopper served on the Rogers Chamber of Commerce Vision 2025 Committee and worked on a plan to map goals for the city’s growth. He was also the chairman of the Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders in 2008, which works to connect and engage young professionals through professional development experiences.

City council terms last for four years and pay an annual salary of $9,511.

The last day to file for municipal office is Aug. 17, and the nonpartisan election will be held Nov. 6.
