Lane closings set for I-49, greenway

-

LOWELL — Crews placing bridge beams over Interstate 49 in Benton County will require closing northbound lanes for multiple 15-minute periods through Friday, according to Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Weather permitting, workers will close the lanes for intervals between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. starting tonight. Lanes will be closed between Wagon Wheel Road, Exit 76, in Springdale and Monroe Avenue, Exit 78, in Lowell. Traffic control will be handled by the Arkansas State Police.

Advance warning signs will be placed to notify traffic approaching the closing. The public is advised to be cautious if traveling in this work zone and is encouraged to find alternative routes to avoid the interstate closing. Traffic will be stopped before exits to allow vehicles to exit.

The project is part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and constructs about four miles of the fourlane U.S. 412 Northern Bypass, which extends from I-49 to Arkansas 112.

In Rogers, construction work to widen I-49 requires work above the Razorback Greenway Trail.

From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. tonight through Thursday morning the trail south of Exit 82, Promenade Boulevard, will be closed to allow crews to paint bridge steel.

The project is part of AHTD’s Connecting Arkansas Program and includes widening fives miles of I-49 to three lanes in each direction. The work extends from Monroe Avenue in Lowell to New Hope Road in Rogers, and is expected to be completed later this year.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas. com or ArkansasHighways. com.
