UA women fail to advance

The Arkansas women’s golf team shot 4-over par Monday and fell seven shots shy of making the eight-team match play portion of the NCAA Championsh­ips at the Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.

The Razorbacks finished tied for 12th with fellow SEC member Alabama at 21 over after the fourth round in a tournament dominated by Pacific-12 teams.

UCLA earned the No. 1 seed for match play with an 8 under, followed by defending national champion Stanford, which moved up three positions Monday and finished at 5 under. Other Pac-12 teams reaching the match play round were No. 3 seed Southern California (2 under), No. 4 seed Washington (even par) and No. 8 seed Oregon (14 over).

]The other qualifiers were No. 5 seed Virginia (3 over) and No. 6 seed Duke (6 over) from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the SEC’s lone entrant, No. 7 seed South Carolina (10 over).

The Razorbacks were led by sophomore Alana Uriell, who shot 1-under 71 on Monday and finished the tournament at 1 over and tied for 20th. Freshman Cara Gorlei closed with an even-par round of 72 and wound up tied for 36th at 4 over. Freshman Maria Fassi was 7 over for the championsh­ip and tied for 53rd. Senior Regina Plasencia was tied for 66th place at 12 over and junior Summar Roachell was tied for 76th at 18 over.

Duke’s Virginia Elena Carta was a runaway winner for medalist honors with a 16-under 272, eight strokes better than Arizona’s Haley moore and Miami’s Dewi Weber.
