True intent of free speech
Re the letter from Bobby Gene Willis regarding Rush Limbaugh calling a female law student a slut, among other things: The last sentence of the letter stated that the writer was pleased that she was not his daughter advertising that she is fornicating. I would have been exceedingly proud that a daughter or female relative of mine was intelligently speaking her mind and evidently practicing safe sex. This young woman is over the age of consent and therefore responsible for her choices.
It would seem to me that, economically, it is more practical for insurance companies to pay for birth control than for a pregnancy and birth of a child, in or out of marriage. Women should be responsible for their own birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and practice safe sex. For insurance companies to pay for Viagra for men to assist with their sex lives, and then not pay for birth control for women seems very much a double standard. It amazes me that in 2012 in the U.S., people are still trying to decide if a woman is entitled to a safe and fulfilled sex life, without the fear of pregnancy, outside of marriage.
On the subject of free speech, I find anything Limbaugh says completely obnoxious and deal with this by simply not listening to him. However, it is free speech and that is what we are supposed to have in this country. I applaud the companies that withdrew their advertising dollars, as it is their “free choice” to do so. Withdrawing the dollar certainly gets attention. SUSAN TURTON-WEEKS
