ABROAD FOR DON

Boaters’ b’day salutes

- By MARK MOORE

Happy berth-day, Mr. President! Boaters took to waterways across the country over the weekend in a floating celebration of President Trump’s 74th birthday.

The “Trumptillas” — including this one on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Fla., which drew hundreds of vessels — began on Saturday and grew on Sunday, as Trump fans showed their support by shoving off.

In Tampa Bay, Jeff Flood, of Bradenton, Fla., took part in a regatta of 200 to 300 boats and said he was glad to see so many people out in support of Trump.

“Trump, he’s kept his word. That means a lot to me,” Flood, 59, told The Tampa Bay Times, adding, “Us old-school guys — that means everything.”

For some, the events were also a chance to celebrate Flag Day on Sunday and get back their sea legs after emerging from the coronavirus shutdown.

In Michigan, Rosanne Ponkowski, president of the state’s Trump Republicans, hailed a flotilla of more than 200 boats that sailed the Detroit River Saturday.

“We felt it was a great way to wish him happy birthday and a terrific way for Michiganders to celebrate the end of the lockdown we have been suffering through,” she told the Detroit News.

Trump’s family and Cabinet also wished him well as “45” turned 74.

“HappyBirthday @realDonaldTrump! Love you!” tweeted Ivanka Trump, his daughter and adviser.

And Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wrote, “Happy birthday, President @realDonaldTrump! I am proud to serve under your strong leadership and wish you continued strength and fortitude as you continue to lead this great nation.”

Trump, who spent much of Sunday at his golf resort in Bedminster, NJ, also acknowledged Flag Day and the Army’s 245th birthday.

“Let us vow never to forget the tremendous sacrifices made by patriots from generation to generation to ensure that the red, white and blue continues to fly high and free,” he said in a statement.
