Betsy McCaughey’s article regarding Sen. Bernie Sanders’ plan was an eye-opener (“Medicare Bait & Switch,” Post Opinion, Sept. 12).

I have Veterans Affairs medical benefits, and it works much as would Medicare for All.
I agree that at times the wait is longer than I care for, but I do get quality care, and my co-pays are based on my income.
For my wife’s insurance, however, we would have to pay a nearly $500-per-month premium on a policy with a deductible of $5,000, and a co-pay of 50 percent up to an out-of-pocket max of $11,000 before insurance picks up 100 percent of the tab.
Yes, a single-payer system does have some small flaws — such as longer wait times — but before you say it will not work, try living on the income of everyday people, who try not to get bankrupted by one medical episode. Joseph Brown Tucson, Ariz.
What Bernie purposes as Medicare for All is actually Medicaid for All.
Medicare, while not as good as private insurance plans, nonetheless is useful. It is also an earned benefit.
People receive it, along with their Social Security, when they turn 65.
Medicaid is actually health care for those with low income. A benefit — not earned, but bestowed — upon the nation’s poor by politicians who buy votes with taxpayer money. Charlie Honadel Venice, Fla.
