Unhappy Mozgov wants explanation

- By BRIAN LEWIS

Just because Timofey Mozgov is professional doesn’t mean he isn’t peeved.

Mozgov is frustrated with his greatly diminished role with the Nets, going from starter at the beginning of last season to out of the rotation, appearing as infrequently as Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster.

And while Mozgov’s agent, Stanislav Ryzhov, told The Post he hasn’t demanded a trade or had any discussions on a buyout, he admitted they’ve spoken with Nets gen- eral manager Sean Marks and expressed both their dissatisfaction with the situation and Mozgov’s desire to play — be it in Brooklyn or anywhere else.

“Yes, Mozgov is not satisfied, and Nets know about it. He is motivated to play and hates sitting on the bench,” Ryzhov said. “We are 100 percent sure that he is still a contributor, even in nowadays superfast NBA fashion. However, it makes no sense now to put a trade ultimatum, considering [the] general situation this summer in the league and Timofey’s contract. We’re sure if some good trade possibility comes, we are going to work it out.”

As wondrous as that contract is for Mozgov — with two years and $33.7 million left — it makes trading him nearly impossible.

Mozgov has handled the situation like a pro, hosting 13 Nets teammates in his Los Angeles home last month. But with Jarrett Allen at the heart of the Nets’ youth movement, coach Kenny Atkinson simply stopped playing the 31-year-old Mozgov.

After starting the first 13 games, Mozgov was demoted to being a rotation player until Dec. 29, and was a non-factor after that. After playing 24 of the first 35 games, he appeared in just seven of the last 47, never cracking double-digit minutes.

The Nets continue to look toward moving up in next Thursday’s NBA draft. The Suns are looking to add veterans and could move the No. 16 pick, according to ArizonaSports.com, which cited DeMarre Carroll and Jeremy Lin as potential targets. Lin seems highly unlikely, but Carroll could be a fit.
