Kanter told tweets will spark LeBron payback

- By MARC BERMAN

LOS ANGELES — Enes Kanter was warned by an unidentified Oklahoma City teammate that he better watch out April 9 when the Knicks face LeBron James and the Cavaliers.

Kanter continued to prod James on Saturday, when he mocked the Cavaliers being routed by the Thunder, his former team, in giving up 148 points.

“148,” he tweeted, adding a crown emoji and James’ popular hashtag #StriveForGreatness.

Kanter reiterated he’s just using Twitter to have fun.

“One [former teammate] texted me just to say — I’m not going to say who — but he texted me, ‘You’re about to get 50 dropped on you, boy,’ ” Kanter said before the Knicks lost to the Lakers 127-107 on Sunday at Staples Center.

Kanter is still close friends with Oklahoma City center Steven Adams.

The Knicks’ jovial starting center sparred with James on Twitter and on the court in November after the King mocked the Knicks for not drafting Dennis Smith Jr. instead taking Frank Ntilikina. Kanter came to the defense of Ntilikina when James wouldn’t get out of the rookie’s way as Ntilikina went to inbound the ball. Ntilikina shoved James and Kanter stepped in, jawing in James’ face.

Kanter still acknowledged Sunday that James is the game’s top player.

“He got mad at me obviously,” Kanter said. “I mess with him a lot, but obviously he’s the best player in the league. I respect the guy a lot. But I think right now they are struggling or whatever. I don’t even think he’s even thinking about what I tweet. I think he’s worried about his team. I don’t even think he’s thinking about what I’m going to tweet or not.”
