‘Fury’ tome hits No. 1 with 29K copies sold

Michael Wolff ’s “Fire and Fury” is a runaway best-seller — but publisher Henry Holt appears to have been blind-sided by the frenzy and is still trying to get additional copies to market.

The book about the Trump White House sold 29,000 copies in its first two days on the markets, according to NPD BookScan.

That was plenty to land the book, from publisher Henry Holt, atop the best-seller list for the week ended Jan. 7 — just ahead of the 25,000 copies of Rupi Kaur’s “The Sun and Her Flowers” that were sold.

Macmillan, the parent company of Henry Holt, said it had a first printing of 150,000 copies and back-orders for another 1 million copies.

A snowstorm on the East Coast on the eve of the book’s Jan.5 release kept thou- sands of copies from being delivered to retailers. Most outlets — from Amazon to Barnes & Noble — did not have physical copies to deliver overnight or to pick up after quickly selling out initial deliveries on Jan. 5. Download sales were brisk. There’s a danger that some sales will be lost because, according to one source, there is no telling how long the “Fire and Fury” frenzy will last.

Henry Holt did not return calls seeking info on what was keeping physical books from getting to stores on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, two more Trump-related books are on their way.

David Cay Johnston’s “It’s Even Worse Than You Think,” from Simon & Schuster, will hit on Jan. 16, the same day that David Frum’s “Trumpocracy,” from HarperCollins, will go on sale.
