Musk reveals ‘pickup’ line

Tesla boss Elon Musk went on Twitter to take suggestions for ways to improve his fleet of electric vehicles — and ended up revealing plans for a Tesla pickup.

The tech tycoon (right) had initially taken to the social network on Tuesday to send a message of “deep gratitude” to Tesla owners, thanking them for “taking a chance on a new company” that experts and investors have repeatedly predicted would fail.

“So much blood, sweat & tears from the Tesla team went into creating cars that you’d truly love. I hope you do,” Musk tweeted. “How can we improve further?”

Most replies centered around software updates to make Tesla’s hightech cars easier to use, and the chief executive replied to a number of them.

But when one user requested a pickup truck, Musk let the cat out of the bag.

“I promise that we will make a pickup truck right after Model Y,” Musk tweeted. “Have had the core design/engineering elements in my mind for almost 5 years. Am dying to build it.”

In a follow-up tweet, the chief executive added that the truck will be similar in size to the Ford F-150, though it might be slightly larger “to account for a really game-changing (I think) feature I’d like to add.”

The Model Y has yet to be unveiled, and so it’s not clear when the Tesla pickup tailgate party will happen.
