Harassment Hypocrisy: Gillibrand’s War on Trump

THE ISSUE: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s call for President Trump to resign because of allegations of sexual abuse.

-

Proving yet again that shameless hypocrisy is de rigueur in today’s Democratic Party, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand told President Trump she “will not be silent” on the issue of sexual harassment (“Gilly, Trump wage war of the ‘sexist,’ ” Dec. 13).

Perhaps she forgot how silent she was while the Clintons enthusiastically supported her campaigns.

Like Sen. Chuck Schumer, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and so many other Democrats who chose ideology and party over morality and decency for years, she now sees that acting pious is politically advantageous.

Trump’s tweets may be excessive, but when he suggests that Gillibrand takes her marching orders from the New York’s senior senator, he’s not far off the mark. James McCaffery Yonkers

Other politicians have admitted their guilt or paid their accusers settlements to keep quiet, but the accusations against Trump are still just that — accusations.

In order to respect due process, Gillibrand should request a congressional investigation into Trump’s behavior or direct the accusers to seek legal advice and bring their cases to civil court. Jacques Hakim Bayside

Gillibrand revealed her hypocrisy. I don’t remember her, or any other Democrat, calling for Bill Clinton’s resignation during his presidency.

Yet she has the nerve to demand that Trump resign based on unproven allegations. What happened to the presumption of innocence, which our Constitution guarantees?

It’s obvious that she is nothing more than an opportunist who has already started building her résumé to run for the presidency. Joan Walsh Valley Stream

As a congresswoman from Upstate, Gillibrand was a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment and the NRA.

After she was awarded the Senate seat of outgoing carpetbagger Hillary Clinton and Sen. Schumer took her under his wing, she did an ideological 180.

It seems she quickly understood where her bread was buttered, and fell in line. Frank Asprea Brooklyn
