Giants vets OK with McAdoo calling them out

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

Ben McAdoo’s impromptu airing-out film session has the support of his veterans. Landon Collins said he loved the Giants’ coach bringing the entire team together Wednesday to watch the ugly film of Sunday’s loss to the 49ers in which a handful of plays were shown and players singled out for their lack of effort or execution.

“He was just trying to be honest with people, push them a little bit more,” the Giants’ safety said Thursday after practice. “That’s what I took from it. Not really too much from a bigtime meeting or an aggressive meeting [standpoint]. Trying to give people a good little push.”

On Wednesday, McAdoo described the film session as “a hard, tough, brutally honest meeting.” Typically, the offense and defense break down film separately. But at 1-8, did it come too late?

“I don’t know; that’s a good question,” Collins said.

“Everybody was basically wanting to find a reason for what’s going on,” defensive end Olivier Vernon said. “We’re all men on this football team. We all addressed it in front of each other. That’s how we took it, and moved on forward.”

LB B. J . Goodson (ankle), OL Justin Pugh ( back) and LB Kelvin Sheppard (groin) missed practice for the second straight day. DT Damon “Snacks” Harrison was limited after being held out of practice Wednesday. CB Donte Deayon (ankle), OL D.J. Fluker (knee), LBs Devon Kennard (quad) and Calvin Munson (quad), DE Jason Pierre-Paul (knee), and DT Dalvin Tomlinson (ankle) were limited. CB Eli Apple was excused for personal reasons. His mother, Annie, underwent brain surgery Thursday.

With Pugh likely out Sunday, Chad Wheeler is in the running to start at right tackle. The Giants could go back to Bobby Hart, though he has struggled. Wheeler, an undrafted rookie out of USC, is a left tackle, but he has taken reps on the right side, and has i mpressed coaches with his athleticism and quick feet.
