Niagara snaps skid vs. Iona

Brooklyn-native Matt Scott scored 20 points, Kahlil Dukes had 17 and Niagara ended a sevengame losing streak to Iona, winning 74-58 on Sunday in New Rochelle. Antwon Portley had 15 for Niagara.

The victory was the first at Iona for the Purple Eagles (2-6, 1-1 MAAC) since Feb. 2, 2009.

The Gaels (4-3, 1-1) had a five-game winning streak broken in losing their home opener.

Shane Gatling added 13 points and Marvin Prochet 10 for Niagara.

Jordan Washington scored 13 points while EJ Crawford and Jon Severe had 12 apiece for Iona.

St. Peter’s 84, Manhattan 70

Quadir Welton scored 18 points and Trevis Wyche added 17 more to lead Saint Peter’s to a home win.

Antwon Portley had 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Samuel Idowu got 10 points for Saint Peter’s (4-3, 1-1 MAAC).

Zavier Turner led the Jaspers with 30 points, while Aaron Walker Jr. and Thomas Capuano had 10 points apiece.

Monmouth 94, Canisius 88

In West Long Branch, N.J., Justin Robinson scored 28 points and Micah Seaborn had 25 to lead Monmouth.

Je’lon Hornbeak had 15 points for Monmouth (6-2, 2-0 MAAC), which shot 51 percent for the game, making 13-of-26 3pointers. Robinson, Hornbeak and Seaborn combined for 11 3-pointers.

Kassius Robertson had seven 3s for 28 points, both career highs, as Canisius (3-5, 1-1) tied the school record with 16 3-pointers.
