NBA: Irving returns as Cavs send 76ers to 1-28

Kyrie Irving scored 12 points and played 18 minutes in his season debut and LeBron James had 23, leading the Cavaliers to a 10886 victory Sunday in Cleveland over the 76ers, who lost their 10th straight and fell to 128. Irving was on the floor for the first time since breaking his left kneecap in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

In Phoenix, Khris Middleton scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and Greg Monroe hit a spinning, goahead layup with 20.6 seconds left to lift the Bucks to a 10195 win over the Suns.

After the game, the Bucks announced coach Jason Kidd is taking an indefinite leave to have hip surgery. Assistant coach

Joe Prunty will direct the team in Kidd’s absence. In Miami, Chris Bosh scored 29 points, Hassan Whiteshook off a slow first half to finish with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and the Heat beat the Trail Blazers 116109.

In Denver, Anthony Davis left after a 19point first quarter with an illness only to return in the fourth and finish with 27 points, lifting the Pelicans to a 130125 win over the Nuggets.

In Orlando, Fla., Kyle Korver scored 13 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, hitting four 3pointers, and the Hawks rallied to beat the Magic 103100.

The Pistons recalled Brandon Jennings after the guard played in one game for the team’s NBA DLeague team in his first action since rupturing his left Achilles tendon in January.

NHL: Jagr nets 732nd goal in Panthers win

Jaromir Jagr scored his 732nd goal to move past Marcel Dionne for fourth place in NHL history, and Aleksander Barkov tallied the winner in the shootout as the Panthers beat the Canucks 54 on Sunday in Sunrise, Fla.

FIFA’s ethics watchdog will give a verdict against president

Sepp Blatter and vice president Michel Platini on Monday, with both facing lengthy bans over a suspect two million dollar payment Blatter approved for Platini in 2011.

Blatter told Swiss newspaper Blick on Sunday he was told corruption charges against him have been dropped but he is still believed to face charges of mismanagem­ent and conflict of interest.

Mississipp­i defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche, who was recently charged with marijuana possession after a 15foot fall at an Atlanta hotel, will not play in the Sugar Bowl against Oklahoma State on Jan. 1. The school said he will enter the NFL draft as a junior.
