5 Question for ... Chris Russo

-

SiriusXM and MLB Network’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo talks about his relationship with Mike Francesa, their March 30 reunion show and other New York topics with The Post’s Justin Terranova.

Q: How did the reunion show come together?

A: I talked with the Garden in early November, and then Mike and I met with them together. There’s nothing much not to like. We were both a little surprised at the anticipation, how much people were really into it. I think that gives you motivation to make sure it’s done right. The Garden will basically let us format it how we want.

Q: Why do you think this is good timing for it?

A: There has to be a period of separation where you whet everyone’s appetites. “Oh, we miss Chris. The two of them together are so good. Chris is not as good alone, Mike isn’t as good alone.” And we have been friendly, we’ve shown up on each other’s shows and have stated that we’d be open to something like this. The gap isn’t too long where you lose all your fans. People still remember who you are. You add in Radio City, which is still a draw and adds some intrigue. I think it’s a home run, I really do.

Q: How is your relationship with Mike?

A: We’ve had our problems, and I won’t dispute that. But if you work with him for 19 years and have been this successful — 8590 percent of the time it’s been a good relationship. I’ll tell you right now, the thing Mike and I have the ability to do is pick up where we left off. I can see Mike when I am 90 years old and we could put together a show. We are in that stage now [when] we feel good about each other, we feel good about where each is, so I think we are honored that everyone is into this. We are both intrigued by the 30for30 thing (a documentary ESPN is producing).

Q: Has Kristaps Porzingis reached the point where he’s a national topic on your show?

A: He’s not there. Locally, I am sure it can carry the day certain times. On a national level, we get a little with the Warriors now, but you can’t rely on the NBA to carry you in January. You won’t get steady calls on Porzingis, but what a great pick by the Knicks.

Q: How would you grade Todd Bowles’ first season?

A: They play hard for Bowles, but he is awful with clock management. He doesn’t know how to run a game: Timeouts, challenges, playcalling in certain spots, not good. He’ll learn and the team plays hard, so you like that aspect. It’ll come down to them and Pittsburgh for the final playoff spot. I’d

give him a Cplus right now.
