SOMETIMES life is just about happy music. Aaron Comess (inset), the drummer for the ’90s hit New Yorkbased band the Spin Doctors, is selling his East Village duplex at 124 E. 13th St for $3.995 million. It comes with its very own recording studio. Comess has lived in what he tells us is “the best neighborhood in the world,” for the past 25 years. His first East Village home, at 1st Avenue and Elizabeth Street, was a “dump with a shower in the kitchen” that he shared with band mate Eric Schenkman. Over the years, he watched the ‘hood transform from crack addicts and hookers to boutiques and top restaurants. His current abode is a 2,796-squarefoot duplex with keyed elevator access and a 300-square-foot terrace with an outdoor shower, hot tub and gas line for a grill. The first floor is the recording studio. “We made a lot of great records there. Tons of amazing artists have been through here,” he said, such as Joan Osborne and the late Phil Ramone. The two bedroom unit comes with a large living area, a home office, 12-foot ceilings, a deck and garden. “I really love the big open feel and the outdoor space, which is amazing in New York City,” Comess says. “It comes with a hot tub and a grill. I cook a lot and love having it. Just being in the neighborhood is great. The best restaurants are here, from Han Dynasty to Momofuko.” The first-floor recording studio is zoned commercial and can be transformed however the potential buyer sees fit, says listing broker Meghan Lowther, of Douglas Elliman.

Comess is leaving the East Village to live in South Williamsburg.
