Corbett: I tied knot with Bo around Christmastime
After nearly 20 years, John Corbett finally married a 10.
The “Sex and the City” actor Tuesday revealed the breaking news about his longtime relationship with actress and former pinup queen Bo Derek.
During an interview with Jerry O’Connell on “The Talk,” Corbett, 60, revealed the couple wed during last year’s holiday season.
“Jerry, I can’t believe that I forgot to tell you that around Christmastime we got married. Bo and I got married,” he shared.
“I noticed your ring and I was gonna say something but not on live television, but wow, congratulations,” O’Connell responded.
Derek, 64, became an overnight success with the film “10” in 1979 as the object of the much older Dudley Moore’s lust. Derek’s “perfect” looks — combined with her cornrows and one-piece bathing suit — made her a pinup queen.
Her first marriage, to John Derek, lasted
more than two decades until the director’s death in 1998. She began dating Corbett in 2002.
“You know, we’re pretty private people,”
Corbett told O’Connell. “We didn’t make an announcement. All our friends and family knew but, this is the first time either one of us has said anything publicly about it because really we haven’t had an opportunity. So, you’re my buddy, and now I guess I’m telling all of America or the world.”
“After 20 years, we decided to get married,” he added. “We didn’t want 2020 to be that thing that everybody looks back at and hated ... let’s get one nice thing out of it.”
In the past, the couple have both spoken about the benefits of not being married.
“I think when you’re beginning a young family and you’re going to have children and set up this new family tree branch, it’s obviously a wonderful commitment and it’s meaningful,” Derek said during a Fox News interview in April 2020. “But for us in our lives, it hasn’t been yet.”
In 2016, Corbett, who had success on the TV show “Northern Exposure” and the film “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” before the hit HBO sitcom, swore that the secret to a successful relationship is not getting married at all.
“Don’t get married,” he told Huffington Post. “I have a lot of friends that get divorces. It becomes this whole thing. I think the secret is just enjoy being together.”
