Bloomy opens Harlem prez campaign office

- BY LEONARD GREENE

Former Mayor Mike Bloomberg, coveting the black vote in his presidential quest, will open a new field office Saturday in Harlem, the campaign’s first outpost in New York State.

Bloomberg won’t be on hand to cut the ribbon, but Manhattan’s former borough president, C. Virginia Fields will be at the new site to welcome supporters and volunteers along with former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Bloomberg’s national political chairman.

Bloomberg’s campaign has secured 3,500 square feet of office space at 69 E. 125th St. near Malcolm X Blvd., according to a report.

The Harlem move comes weeks after the former mayor’s apology tour during which he expressed his regret for the controversial NYPD “stop and frisk” policy which pitted Bloomberg against African American and civil rights leaders over the search tactic that targeted blacks and Hispanics.

In 2013, a federal judge ruled the tactic, as it was practiced, unconstitutional. Even so, Bloomberg still held his ground, until last year’s apology — and campaign kickoff.

Bloomberg was also scheduled to speak Friday at a voting rights summit hosted by high-profile Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams, who narrowly lost that state’s race for governor in 2018.

Abrams, a former state representative, was trying to become the first black woman elected governor of a U.S. state.

She has been frequently touted as a potential running mate for the party’s eventual nominee.

The billionaire ex-mayor will pour hundreds of millions into ousting President Trump whether he wins the Democratic nomination or not, his campaign also said Friday.
