MLB big has brain tumor

Michael Weiner, who succeeded Donald Fehr as head of the baseball players’ union three years ago and negotiated a labor deal last fall in a seamless transition, is undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

The union said Tuesday that he began treatments on Monday that are expected to last about a month. The union said it anticipate­s Weiner, 50, will continue to work from its New York office during the treatments.

n Stephen Strasburg struck out 10 batters and allowed one run in six innings for his 15th win in one of his final starts of the season as the host Nationals beat the Braves, 4-1.

NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr and NHL commission­er Gary Bettman are set to return to the negotiatin­g table in Toronto on Wednesday to resume labor talks.

VICK HAS BRUISED RIBS

An MRI and CT scan on Eagles QB Michael Vick’s ribs revealed he has no broken bones or fractured cartilage. Vick has a contusion of his ribs and of the soft tissue surroundin­g it. Vick left Monday’s game against the Patriots on his sixth play.
