UMBEHR, ELEANOR
Eleanor (DelMedico) Umbehr, 80, of Westbrook, passed away Monday, March 8th, 2021, after a brief but courageous battle against coronavirus. She was born in New Haven, CT on December 25th, 1940 to the late Otto and Anne (Cimmino) DelMedico. Eleanor resided along the Connecticut shoreline for most of her adult life, originally in Killingworth and most recently in Westbrook. She was employed for many years by Whelen Engineering in Chester, CT until her retirement. In her personal life, Eleanor enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was known for her delicious cooking and baking, most notably her German marmorkuchen (Marble cake), which was a family favorite. She frequented the local YMCA, where she had many close friends. Most importantly, Eleanor enjoyed her role as a mother and a grandmother. She will be remembered by her kindhearted and loving nature, her effortless humor, and her bright smile. She was selfless and always prioritized the happiness and well-being of her loved ones. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by one son, Bernard Umbehr of Westbrook, and three loving grandchildren, Gabriel, Julianna and Jason Umbehr. She is also survived by a brother, Otto DelMedico Jr., of Prospect. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerhard Umbehr, and one son, Gary Umbehr Jr. Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service on Saturday, April 24th at 11:00 am, DIRECTLY in Evergreen Cemetery, Green Hill Road, Killingworth CT 06419.
