JERMAINNE, VINCENT

-

Vincent Arthur Jermainne of Old Saybrook, formerly of Chester, passed away peacefully and with a smile on his face November 9, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born on April 19, 1921 in Chester and had a zest for life from the very start. He often told stories of his youthful adventures, maybe the most memorable was skipping high school on September 21, 1938, the day the ‘38 Hurricane demolished most of the CT coastline. Vincent had a day he would never forget riding out the storm in his 20’ motor boat. Vinny spent his life mostly in Chester and in various occupations but was a gifted tool and die tradesman learning his trade at the Marlin Arms Factory. When WWII broke out Vincent had a deferment due to his work producing rifles for the U.S Military. However, he was determined to serve and volunteered to join the Navy. He was stationed around the U.S. and the Pacific Theater. He was very proud of the time he spent in the Navy accumulating hundreds of stories he shared over the years. October 9, 1945 he married his sweetheart Elizabeth Koch and worked at various local companies, several of his own businesses and spent many years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Vincent was also an artist and a wood worker and in 1965 he put those talents to use by starting Jermainne Novelties with his wife and father in their kitchen. By 1972 they had grown to 8 employees shipping products all over the country and in 1987 after retirement, Vinny and Betty spent winters in Thonotosassa, FL where once again he made many friends. Throughout his life Vincent enjoyed many hobbies and made friends wherever he went. Among his passions were boating, restoring antique cars and finally the casino where everyone called him “Lucky”. He lived each and every day of his 97 1/2 years to the fullest and often said he hadn’t a worry. Vinny is pre-deceased by his wife Betty.
