Kyle Hendricks took a shutout into the ninth inning and the Chicago Cubs defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1 on Sunday. Hendricks (3-4) allowed eight hits and struck out a season-high eight in eight-plus innings without allowing a walk.
RAYS 7, Mets 1:
Manuel Margot, Willy Adames and Brandon Lowe homered off Marcus Stroman, leading the Tampa Bay Rays over the New York Mets 7-1 on Sunday for a three-game sweep.
ORIOLES 10, Yankees 6:
Maikel Franco homered and drove in three runs, rookie Bruce Zimmermann came out of the bullpen to hold down the Yankees and Baltimore Orioles avoided a three-game sweep by rallying to beat New York 10-6 Sunday. Aaron Judge homered for the third straight game.
Giants 4, PIRATES 1:
Alex Wood pitched six innings while keeping his perfect record intact and Mike Yastrzemski hit a game-sealing home run as the San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 on Sunday.
BLUE JAYS 10, Phillies 8:
Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette hit consecutive first-inning homers, Randal Grichuk had a two-run double in a five-run second and the Blue Jays hung on to beat the injury-depleted Phillies 10-8 on Sunday.
Angels 6, RED SOX 5:
Shohei Ohtani hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth inning and the Los Angeles Angels rallied past the Boston Red Sox 6-5 Sunday, ending a four-game losing streak.
BREWERS 10, Braves 9:
Freddy Peralta struck out eight over six scoreless innings, Avisail Garcia homered and the Milwaukee Brewers blew most of an 8-0 lead before holding on to beat the Atlanta Braves 10-9 on Sunday.
WHITE SOX 4, Royals 3:
Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer for the second straight day, and the Royals handed Carlos Rodón his first loss of the season with a 5-1 victory over the White Sox on Saturday night.
Athletics 7, TWINS 6:
Matt Chapman had three hits and three RBIs and Ramón Laureano scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the ninth inning Sunday as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-6.
ASTROS 6, Rangers 2:
Chas McCormick had a two-run single as part of a fourrun eighth, Lance McCullers Jr. threw six scoreless innings and the Houston Astros won their sixth straight, 6-2 over the Texas Rangers on Sunday.
Reds 7, ROCKIES 6:
Dom Nunez’s passed ball allowed home the tying run in the ninth inning and Jordan Sheffield’s wild pitch scored the go-ahead run, gifting the Cincinnati Reds a 7-6 win over the Rockies on Sunday.
MARINERS 3, Cleveland 2:
Mitch Haniger hit two doubles and the Seattle Mariners snapped Shane Bieber’s record strikeout streak, beating Cleveland’s ace 3-2 on Sunday.
Marlins 3, DODGERS 2:
Adam Duvall hit a three-run homer and then threw out Mookie Betts at the plate during a busy fifth inning Sunday, and the Miami Marlins hung on for a 3-2 victory in their series finale with the Dodgers.
Nationals 3, D-BACKS 0:
Erick Fedde pitched seven scoreless innings, Yadiel Hernandez hit a go-ahead, pinch-hit homer and the Nationals beat the Diamondbacks 3-0 on Sunday.
Cardinals at PADRES, late:
Austin Nola homered, doubled and drove in a career-high six runs, and Tommy Pham and rookie Kim Ha-seong also connected off Adam Wainwright to lead the Padres to a 13-3 rout against the Cardinals on Saturday night.
