GE Healthcare to lay off 123 people in Tosa
GE Healthcare is laying off 123 people in Wauwatosa as part of its previously announced plans to move as many as 250 jobs from Wauwatosa to its headquarters in Chicago or regional offices.
The affected employees, whose last day with the company will be Aug. 31, are those who opted not to be transferred, according to a company spokesperson.
“In January, we informed employees that to be closer to our customers and strengthen our business, portions of the U.S. commercial team will transfer to the company’s global headquarters in Chicago and other regional offices,” the spokesperson said in an email.
“We remain committed to Wisconsin, home to more GE Healthcare employees than any other state.”
The affected jobs are in sales and marketing or support positions.
GE Healthcare employs about 5,700 people in Wauwatosa, Waukesha, Milwaukee and Madison.
Its business units for magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, computerized tomography, ultrasound and other products are based in Wauwatosa and Waukesha. Other operations in Wisconsin include bedside monitors, incubators for neonatal intensive care and ventilators.
GE Healthcare’s headquarters, once based in Waukesha, were moved to London in 2003 after GE bought Amersham plc, which made radiopharmaceutical products used in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures. Its headquarters later were moved to Chicago.
In March, GE sold its BioPharma business, part of GE Healthcare, to Danaher Corp. for $21 billion.
