A historic former Milwaukee firehouse would be converted into a highend venue for weddings and other events under a new proposal.

The venue, Story Hill Firehouse, would operate in a 4,800-square-foot building at 407 N. Hawley Road, in the Story Hill neighborhood.

Evenement LLC, an event planning company operated by Janelle MeyerBrown, wants to operate its offices and a venue at the building, according to plans filed with the Milwaukee Board of Zoning Appeals.

Story Hill Firehouse would host business meetings, luncheons and breakfast meetings during the week, and weddings on weekends, according to those plans.

The brick building was constructed in 1927, in the Neoclassical architectural style, as a Milwaukee Fire Department engine house, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.

The former firehouse was sold in 2007. It now houses Enterprise Art Glass Works Inc., which makes stained glass windows.

Enterprise Art Glass is planning to relocate to Hales Corners in early 2019, said owner Andrew Paremski.

Evenement LLC last year disclosed plans to buy a 20,400-square-foot building at 7140-7144 W. Greenfield Ave., West Allis, with plans of converting it into venue space.

However, that building, which housed The Wedding Centre retail space before it closed, was later sold to an antiques store operator.

The proposed Hawley Road venue needs a special use permit. The Board of Zoning Appeals is to consider that request at its Thursday meeting.
