Pioneers sputter after fast start

UW-Plattevill­e’s offense answered the bell early on Saturday, but it was Thomas More that inished strong.

The No. 16 Pioneers (1-1) led, 21-0, after the first 15 minutes, before the host Saints scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, rallying for a 35-28 upset in Crestview Hills, Ky.

Plattevill­e quarterbac­k Colin Scheutz threw for 372 yards and two touchdowns, but one of his two intercepti­ons was returned for a 43-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Thomas More’s Hjavier Pitts caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from quarterbac­k Justin Post with five minutes left in the fourth quarter for the winning score

UW-Oshkosh 17, Lincoln 7: Quarterbac­k Kyle Radavich ran for touchdown and passed for another as the No. 15 Titans rebounded from last week’s loss.

Radavich’s 1-yard plunge got the Titans on the scoreboard in the first quarter and he broke a 7-7 tie early in the fourth quarter when he hit Mitchell Gerend with a six-yard scoring strike.

Oshkosh (2-1) defeated a Division 2 foe for the first time since 2004.

UW-Whitewater 73, Middle Georgia State 0: Eight players scored for the Warhawks (3-0), who cruised at home.

Missouri Baptist 38, UW-River Falls 28: Sam Altena’s 16-yard TD run cut the lead to 31-28 early in the fourth quarter, but the host Falcons (1-2) gave up a touchdown with 40 seconds left.

Altena had 144 yards and a pair of rushing scores on 23 carries.

Dickinson State 35, UW-La Crosse 17: Receivers Dominic Labellarte and Cole Spieker combined for 190 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles (2-1), but Dickinson State scored 21 points in the third quarter to break open a 14-10 game at the half.

Carthage 31, Carroll 0: The visiting Red Men (1-1) didn’t allow a single rushing yard in the second half and blanked the rival Pioneers (1-1). Quarterbac­k Kyle Friberg threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns.

Concordia 20, Alma 15: Josh Sanders had a 179 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns for the host Falcons (2-1). Quarterbac­k Aaron Nixon threw for 279 yards.

Hope 53, Wisconsin Lutheran 12: The Warriors (0-3) were outgained, 508-245, in total yardage and were limited to 1.7 yards per carry.

Visiting Hope was led by Mike Miklusicak’s 146 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Trine 56, Lakeland 6: Lamar Carswell ran for 217 yards and two scores and the visitors more than doubled the Muskies’ (0-2) rushing total.
