A hit job on Billy Graham

-

It’s too bad that Emily Mills used her time and the Journal Sentinel’s ink and space to get one more “hit” in on Billy Graham (“Sorry, but I’m not mourning Billy Graham,” March 4).

She made him out to be something that he was not. Using a person’s death to publicly express your hatred for him or her is beyond the pale, and I believe, should be beyond the Journal Sentinel’s standards.

Did he fall into the all-too-easy trap of mankind judging others? He may have on certain occasions. After all, he was a sinful man, just as all of mankind is sinful and capable of sin. Did he point out certain things that God calls sin? He certainly did, or he would have been remiss in his mission of making God’s word known. Stealing lying, murder, lust, judging others, adultery, homosexuality and many other things are sins in God’s eyes. His point was very simple, and it aligns with God’s point.

That is: All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

People must repent of their sins and believe that Christ did what he said he would. He died and rose. He paid the penalty of sin through his crucifixion and resurrection. Those who repent and believe will go to heaven, because that’s what God says.

That was the simple message of Billy Graham. He wanted all of us to know that we all are sinners, not because he said so but because God said so.
